Farm vs Robot

We like to talk about Zoo animals and Farm animals in consecutive weeks so comparisons can be drawn: where they live, would you have it in your house, what is it's job, etc.  Today in the Caterpillar class, comparisons were between the Robots the children created and the poor little farm animals in the barn.  As the robots moved over to investigate the barn, the door opened and the cows, pigs & horses scared the daylights out of them!  Robots ran all the way across the rug before stopping to take a breath.  It was an unexpected event in our morning.

Crazy mixed up animals

I found some stamps which have only 1/3 of an animal on them: head, middle, feet.  I thought the Butterfly class might enjoy creating mixed up animals.  Upon closer inspection, we only had middles and feet, but ok, use 2 stamps and draw the head yourself, right?  They had a ball.

Going to the zoo, zoo, zoo

Caterpillars worked on a banner of zoo animals today, using negative space to create their animals with blue paint.  Everyone participated, and the finished product was put on the wall and appreciated by the class.  However, putting rings on strings was the project that took and held everyone's attention.  Just a reminder to a preschool teacher: challenge us, but also offer us something we are already good at.

Sunshine

Most remarkable thing about today was outdoor play on our playground.  As far as we can tell, none of our equipment melted with the snow.  Big noises and big movements were the rule of the day during recess.
Students enjoyed playdoh during center time.  The addition of blue beads changed the texture and the finished star cookies.
Sound effects at the zoo: "Baa, baa, baa, baa, baa, baa...

They were so proud to complete this alphabet puzzle, they held hands and sang the Alphabet Song.

We are loved...

Valentine's Day means counting the ones who love you...Caterpillar kids made quite a long list today of those special people.  We also delivered Valentines to our classmates by finding the bag that matched the name on the cards they brought.  Thanks to the parents who did this work at home, and also those who sent snacks today.  It was a party full of Thank Yous to each other and the Moms.
Space toys were still the rage during Centers today, and with Mrs. T as anchor, the attribute blocks got sorted by shape and color.

Party prep

Caterpillars returned to school today just in time to decorate their own bags in preparation for the delivery of Valentines on Thursday.  The beautiful bags will be put out on the table and each child will deliver Valentines into the correct bag.  Lots of prereading going on, including matching initials or the shapes of the names.  The time invested in preparing Valentines for delivery to classmates shows in their eagerness to watch each other open the cards later at the party.  Family and friends invited: about 10:30 Thursday, and 11:00 Friday mornings.
